Mao Zhonghua, vice-president of the Supreme People's Court (SPC), led a delegation to the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions (SARs) from Jan 19 to 23, reinforcing judicial collaboration and supporting the regions' role in China's overall development.
During the visit, Mao met with Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR John Lee Ka-chiu and Chief Executive of the Macao SAR Sam Hou Fai, during which he emphasized the importance of further deepening reforms and maximizing the role of Hong Kong and Macao in China's opening-up under the "one country, two systems" framework. The SPC remains committed to supporting Hong Kong and Macao in consolidating and enhancing their positions in key sectors such as international finance, trade, shipping, innovation and technology, and culture and tourism, said Mao. The court will continue to strengthen legal and judicial exchanges with both regions, working together to advance the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and contribute to the long-term prosperity and stability of the two regions, he added.
While in Hong Kong, Mao held discussions with Andrew Cheung Kui-nung, chief justice of the Court of Final Appeal of the Hong Kong SAR, and Secretary of Justice Paul Lam Ting-kwok. He also attended the opening ceremony for the Legal Year 2025.
During the stay in Macao, he met with Song Man Lei, president of Macao's Court of Final Appeal, and Macao Secretary for Administration and Justice Cheong Weng Chon. He also visited the University of Macau.
