The draft revision to Amendment (IX) to the Criminal Law was submitted to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress for the third review recently. The following issues in the third draft revision attract public attention: (1) the offence of having sex with under-age girl is abolished; (2) serious embezzlement and bribery may be sentenced to life imprisonment; (3) any offender who violently assaults a police officer shall be subject to a heavier punishment for the crime of obstructing official business; (4) fabricating litigation can be sentenced up to seven years imprisonment; (5) drug driving is not yet listed as a criminal offence; (6) killing or intentionally injuring a kidnapped victim and causing serious injury or death of the victim will be sentenced to life imprisonment or death penalty.
