SPC Issues Judicial Interpretation on Commutation and Parole

Recently, the Supreme People's Court (SPC) issued the Provisions on the Specific Application of Law in the Handling of Commutation and Parole Cases, effective from January 1, 2017.
The Provisions contain strict requirements for commutation of duty-related crimes such as embezzlement and taking of bribes, and add that no commutation and parole should apply to convicts of embezzlement and taking of bribes who are, as decided by the courts, imprisoned for life without the possibility of commutation and parole.
The Provisions adjust the commencement time, interval, and range of commutation for criminals sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment, life imprisonment, death penalty with suspension of execution, and death penalty with suspension of execution and limitation on commutation.
