Article 33 of China's Civil Procedure Law provides for the issue of exclusive jurisdiction categorizing it into three specific circumstances: firstly a lawsuit involving real estate disputes is subject to the jurisdiction of the people's court at the place where the real estate is located; secondly a lawsuit involving disputes over harbor operations is subject to the jurisdiction of the people's court at the place where the harbor is located; thirdly a lawsuit involving inheritance disputes is subject to the jurisdiction of the people's court at the place of the domicile of the deceased upon death or at the place where the major part of the estate is located. The Civil Procedure Law is a private law on procedure stressing the autonomy of will which allows the parties to select a court for settling dispute.
