On October 17, Sichuan Province and Brazil's Pernambuco State signed a memorandum on deepening friendly relations in Chengdu. Shi Xiaolin, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, met with Raquel Lyra, Governor of Pernambuco State. The two leaders respectively represented their sides in signing the document.
During the meeting, Shi Xiaolin extended her welcome to Governor Raquel Lyra for choosing Sichuan as the first stop of her first visit to China since taking office, and briefly introduced Sichuan's development. She noted that China and Brazil, both as major developing countries and important emerging markets, have seen their exchanges and cooperation across various fields continuously deepen and expand under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state in recent years. Sichuan and Pernambuco established sister-province relations in 1992, and have since maintained frequent interactions at various levels with steadily advancing practical cooperation. The two regions exhibit strong economic complementarity and face many shared development challenges, presenting substantial potential for future cooperation. We hope that Your Excellency Governor's current visit will serve as an opportunity to further enhance intergovernmental exchanges and international sister-city cooperation, deepen economic, trade, and investment collaboration in sectors such as agriculture and new energy, promote cultural and tourism interactions as well as resource connectivity, strengthen training cooperation and student exchanges between universities, and work diligently to achieve more mutual benefits and win-win outcomes. Let us jointly elevate the friendship to new heights and usher in an even brighter next 30 years.
Raquel Lyra expressed that China-Brazil friendly relations are entering a golden period of development. She expressed her hope that, riding the tailwind of bilateral friendship, Pernambuco and Sichuan would deepen cooperation in technology, agriculture, clean energy, and port construction, establish business matchmaking platforms for trade and investment, accelerate Pernambuco's green, low-carbon transition and sustainable development, enhance collaboration in vocational education and other areas, promote student exchanges to Sichuan, and continuously broaden exchanges to strengthen people-to-people bonds, thus delivering greater benefits to the people in both places.
Also present were Ren Jingdong, Vice Governor of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, Hu Yuankun, Secretary-General of the People's Government of Sichuan Province, and heads of relevant provincial departments, among others.
